New digital technologies are key to enabling the use of Marine Autonomous Systems for ocean observing. Building on the outcomes of the Future Data Ecosystems work package in the NZOC Scoping Study (2021), the Programme commissioned the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) to develop further insights into the NZOC Digital Theme.

Today the Net Zero Oceanographic Capability programme has published the Embedding NZOC in Digitally Enabled Ocean Science report summarising the outcomes of this work. The report provides insight into the digital transformation that is required to deliver net zero oceanographic research infrastructure.

Hosted by Dr Justin Buck and Alvaro Lorenzo Lopez, the NOC convened a two-day workshop with a diverse group of stakeholders to explore the links between Digital Infrastructure, Digital Twins of the Ocean (DiTTOs) and In-Situ Ocean Observing Infrastructure. The team also hosted an online stakeholder engagement event to present the initial findings and gather input from the wider marine community.
